Florida Medical Cannabis Business Licensing Process: What Happens Next for MMTC Applicants?

Nov 22, 2024

Florida has the nation's largest medical cannabis market, and its Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) licenses are some of the most valuable cannabis licenses in the world.

It's been over a year since applications were submitted for the latest MMTC licensing round, and licenses still haven't been issued. If you are an applicant, or even someone interested in applying in potential future licensing rounds, we know you're frustrated at how slowly things are moving. We're crossing our fingers that the Florida Department of Health Office of Medical Marijuana Use will make an announcement soon!

But what can (and should) be done now in this final waiting period? And what are some immediate action items after the Intent to Award notices are issued?

In this 15-minute on-demand webinar, Vicente partner Sally Kent Peebles dives into Florida's medical cannabis program licensing timeline. She discusses key steps to take after being awarded an MMTC license, important dates and deadlines, and compliance best practices.

While waiting for the final license approval, applicants can take several steps to prepare their operations. Sally emphasizes the importance of meticulous planning, stating, “The state sees this application as your manual for how you’re going to operate.” So, if there have been changes to anything in your initial application, variance requests must be submitted to the regulators within a certain timeframe. Additionally, operators must be prepared for rigorous inspections and compliance checks.

We’re Here to Help.

Vicente LLP is here to assist with application variance requests, real estate, securing municipal approvals, drafting SOPs, and operational compliance—including marketing and advertising review, packaging and labeling review, on-site audits to prepare for regulatory inspections, and more!
