Phil Silverman Will Present on Cannabis and Insolvency During New England Bankruptcy Law Conference

The 24th Annual New England Bankruptcy Law Conference 2023 takes place on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. ET at the MCLE Conference Center in Boston, Massachusetts.  

VS partner Phil Silverman is scheduled to present on a panel titled, “Cannabis in the Insolvency World,” which begins promptly at 12:35 p.m. following the Welcome and Introduction. 

Learn about issues that arise when state-sanctioned, but federally illegal, cannabis businesses encounter insolvency. The panel discusses the federal statutory scheme governing cannabis, its tension with state laws, and developing case law regarding roadblocks in accessing relief under the Bankruptcy Code. The panel also analyzes state court receiverships and other non-bankruptcy methods for dealing with cannabis-related businesses, and special concerns that lenders and other parties should address in dealing with those in the industry.
