Vicente LLP and Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association Collaborate on First-Ever Tribal Cannabis and Hemp Programs Map

Vicente LLP, in collaboration with the Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association (ICIA), developed a first-of-its-kind map highlighting 56 unique Tribal cannabis programs across the continental U.S. in addition to dozens of additional hemp operations. As featured in POLITICO Pro, the project sheds light on how participation varies by state and explores how market structures and compacting agreements shape Tribal engagement with cannabis and hemp. Created by Andrew Livingston and Mary Jane Oatman, the map serves as a key resource for future research and collaboration within Indigenous cannabis policy.

Cannabis Presents Economic Opportunity for Tribal Nations

Cannabis is opening new doors of economic opportunity for Tribal nations across the country, from the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina to the White Earth Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota. In states where cannabis sales are not legal or where adult-use dispensaries have not yet opened, Tribal cannabis businesses may have a first-to-market advantage.
